Jozy Altidore seals U.S. Gold Cup advancement with a terrific long-distance shot

USA and Panama go through in the Group C of the CONCACAF Gold Cup as USA sealed second place with a 1-0 win over Guadeloupe. Panama came from behind to tie against Canada to cement the top spot with seven points to USAs six. Despite a plethora of chances, the States advanced through a rocket of a shot by Jozy Altidore in the 9th minute. Guadeloupe has a population of only 405,500 people and as a region of France, is therefore not a member of FIFA. After losing in the group stages for the first time ever (against Panama), a 1-0 win against Guadeloupe was rather underachieving.
With the victory, the U.S. advance to the Gold Cup quarterfinals and will play on June 19th against undefeated Group B winners Jamaica.
