Set in the foothills of the Italian Alps, Royal Park Golf & Country Club is a Robert Trent Jones Snr course that is characterised for innovative use of bunkers and water hazards which coupled with clever positioning of greens and obstacles including large trees requires more careful, thought through course management.

The competition has the feel of a mid-season break while many higher ranked players compete in the US and prepare for the US Open next week.

New, young and experienced players make up the large field of 150 for this event including more than a liberal sprinkling of the local Azzurri and Italys (clearly) favourite son Constantino Rocca a steal at 1500/1 with Skybet bidding for the 250,000 Euro prize pot.

Consider:

Weather forecast: warm and wet good if you are with a lady, but no good if you are attempting to swing golf clubs for money. Does this favour the Scots? They have an enviable win record in this competition since the 50s from greats including Barnes, Torrance and Lyle.

Three holes stand out; the par 5 5th a long hole with a glorious red tree directly behind the pin while trouble, in stream form, meanders down the right hand side before crossing! in fron t of the green; the par 3, 12th at 197 yards is a tricky target with water front and left and a solitary bunker back right and finally; the long par 4, 17th hole at 468 yards has a large tree guarding the green hampering all drives positioned on the right side of the fairway.

Ones to watch:

Balgownies Richie Ramsay (85/1, Betfair), leads driving accuracy stats and ranks high in greens in regulation. Twice crowned a winner, he has quickly earned his place amongst the royalty of the European Tour but will he continue this rich vein of form.

Victor Dubuisson (66/1 Skybet, Totesport and Betfair) has long girly hair. He has a beautiful shoulder turn. He plays Titleist. (You know him now!). Outperformed most at the Disney themed PowerPlay Golf event in Wales with a controlled but attacking game. 2011 is his rookie year but can he join 18 previous players and enjoy a fine first year maiden win?

One Each Way:

Fiery Frenchman, Gregory Bourdy (181/10 with Betfair), high ranking in scramble stats, hopes to go one better than his 2nd in Wales last week. His performances have improved year on year for 5 seasons and 2011 has started well. In Italy, will this frog have the legs?

One to Win:

2008 Rookie of the Year and son of a fish farmer, Pablo Larrazabel (41/1 at Betfair) played himself into 4th at Celtic Manor and has been a steady performer in May and early June on the Tour can he ag! ain scal e dizzying heights, be a slippery performer and land a big one?
