Englands continued presence in the European Under-21 championships lies on a game against Czech Republic, where only 3 points will do to secure qualification into the semi-finals.
Stuart Pearces side have drawn their opening two group fixtures with a 1-1 draw with Spain and a 0-0 tie against Ukraine, meaning that theyll need a win in their final fixture to gain a place in the semi-finals.
The England coach has been criticised for playing players out-of-position in this competition. Michael Mancienne has been the one on the lips of most pundits, as the former Chelsea centre back, who has recently joined German side Hamburg, has been playing a holding role in midfield. Star striker Daniel Sturridge has alos been playing in a wide role which is perhaps not his strongest position, so Pearce has come under a bit of pressure, and now a win is needed in order to qualify.
He has no injury worries going into the game in Viborg. There were slight concerns over the fitness of Manchester United defender Chris Smalling and Arsenals midfielder Henri Lansbury but they have both been declared available for selection.
Despite failing to impress during the tournament so far, England are favourites to win this clash with best odds available of 6/5 (Paddy Power). A draw can be backed at 12/5 (general) whilst a Czech win is available at 13/5 (Stan James).
The Czechs beat Ukraine in t! heir ope ning game but were well beaten 2-0 by Spain on Wednesday. They are a strong team, but if England play to their best, then the victory should be theirs.
In terms of backing a first goalscorer, players to look out for will be Englands sole goalscorer of the competition Danny Welbeck who is 7/1 (Paddy Power), while his strike partner Daniel Sturridge has impressed without finding the net, but he can be backed at 6/1 (Victor Chandler). For the Czech Republic, Boek Dokal has both of his sides strikes of this tournament and will offer a big threat at a great value 14/1 (William Hill). Striker Tom Pekhart will also be looking to find the net and hes available at 15/2 (bwin).
As always with England national football teams, its certain not be done the easy way, so expect a tight game.
